Mena's Entrepreneurial Journey

Reading and watching Randy Pausch last lecture taught me a lot. One of man’s greatest failings is choosing to become a spectator in his life story. Randy Pausch wasn’t a spectator, he was an actor. This was why he was able to achieve so many of his dreams. It is important to note that he was willing to work hard to achieve his dreams. His desire to make them a reality led him to push and not give up until it happened. I would say that he was resilient. I think that the type of dreams we have go a long way also. This week, I was talking to a friend about her working conditions, it is terrible! I asked her why she wouldn’t quit and find better options. She said she was waiting for a “divine breakthrough”. Then I said: “be your divine breakthrough.” She laughed! This is true with most of us. We dream and it isn’t that dreaming is bad, but we have the regular knight in shining amour coming to rescue us.                When I was a little girl, I was taught that finishing school with good grades would qualify you for a job. It seemed so straight-forward. Nobody thought beyond not getting a job, nobody wanted to focus on being more. We were all content to work for someone else. I especially ensured that I had those good grades. I got a job and I was happy for about a year until I started to want more and be more. I just felt I wasn't fulfilling my full potential so I quit my job in order to serve a mission for my church. I was convinced that while I was in the service of God and my fellow-men, I would find myself and what was missing. Eighteen months later, I returned to find that the economy had taken a turn for the worse. I joined the teeming population of job applicants, this time with a craving for an adventure.
